New Developments in Prostate Cancer Screening

Recommendations for the early detection of prostate cancer are evolving: The digital rectal exam, which has been widely used until now, is increasingly coming under scrutiny and may no longer play a central role in screening in the future. This shift is based on studies showing that this method often fails to reliably detect tumors.

Instead, modern diagnostic methods are becoming increasingly important. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in particular, provides a much more precise view of the prostate and can detect abnormal changes at an early stage. When combined with the PSA blood test, a prostate MRI can help better assess an individual’s risk and avoid unnecessary invasive procedures.

In the following article, you’ll learn more about the latest developments in prostate cancer screening and the important role that modern imaging can play in the future.
